Binflash has been updated to version 1.63 to include support for the LiteOn iHAS124 W drive. Before Optiarc decided to go out of business, this drive probably should have been named Optiarc AD-7320S. Flashing this drive has not been tested yet, so there is a slight chance that this will not work properly. This drive does not use the NEC/Optiarc bitsetting commands, so bitsetting is not supported by Binflash and no bitsetting patches are available. Chances are however (yet unverified) that the drive will support LiteOn bitsetting commands, so e.g. Nero DiscSpeed might work instead. Also the RPC1 patch could potentially be broken, in this case please use auto-reset firmware instead.

Also there is a flasher executable from Optiarc that should be compatible with most of their drives. Just in case you want to have an alternative to Binflash.

After being quiet for a while we finally have some updates again.

First of all Binflash has been updated to version 1.62 to include support for the AD-7740H drive series.

Binflash has been updated to version 1.60, adding support for AD-7280S OEM drives from IO-Data. Firmwares for this drive are incompatible with regular AD-7280S firmwares.

Binflash has been updated to version 1.58. This update mainly includes support for AD-5960H and AD-7960H drives and finally offers proper support for flashing AD-7280S drives that was broken in 1.57
Users on the command line will now also see drives that may potentially work but are not properly implemented yet.

Thanks a lot to NewFish for his help to get the flash support for AD-7280S drives implemented.

The AD-7280S bitsetting patch probably still contain bugs and will perhaps not properly booktype discs.

If you downloaded the AD-7280S firmwares before November 25th, please re-download the package if you want to flash a bitsetting firmware as the old patch would result in freezes.

I just uploaded Binflash version 1.57 which adds support for the AD-7280S and compatible drives and also contains an improved region code reset routine.

[Update]Looks like flashing the AD-7280S does not work. This is being looked into – for the time being you can only dump your current firmwares but not flash them.[/UPDATE]

I’ve just published Binflash version 1.56. Unlike most previous versions, this one does not only add support for additional drives (AD-5970H in this version) or fix bugs, it also contains new functionality:

On the command line you get two new options -queryrpc and -resetrpc. The first one is used to display your drive’s current region code settings and will probably also work on drives other than NEC or Optiarc. The second option allows you to reset your drive’s DVD region counter. You can either issue a vendor reset that decrements the vendor counter by one and giving you 5 user changes again or you can run a global reset that gives you 4 vendor and 5 user changes again. Please keep in mind that due to the restricted lifetime of the used flash chips it is highly recommended to use RPC1 or Auto-Reset firmwares instead. Using this function too often may damage your drive.

In the Windows GUI version you have an additional button that shows a menu with your drive’s current region code settings and buttons to reset the counter if possible.

Binflash version 1.54 has just been released. This version adds support for AD-7591A and AD-7591S drives.

I just released Binflash version 1.53 which adds support for the HP DVD-Writer 1270r.

Binflash version 1.52 has just been made available. This version adds support for the AD-7700H slimline drive and also adds basic flashing support for the Optiarc BluRay combo drives. This means that you can flash within the same series of firmwares like 1.00 to 1.03 or 1.08 but not to 1.10, 1.23 or 1.xy. Also dumping firmwares is not possible at the moment.
